Cheap OLED based night vision presented on TED talks show

Adapting technology found in flat screen television sets, scientists have created a thin film that converts infrared light into visible light. The technology could give cell phones, eyeglasses and car windshields cheap, lightweight night vision.

Chihaya Adachi is director of the Center for Organic Photonics and Electronics Research (OPERA) in the Center for Future Chemistry at Kyushu University (Japan). He received his M.Eng (1988) and D.Eng (1991) in Materials Science and Technology from Kyushu University.

Panasonic 56" 4K OLED display

Panasonic shows their OLED Printing technology for the first time at CES 2013. They claim this can allow for affordable mass manufacturing of OLED displays at any size and at any resolution. Panasonic claims that the yield is high for this new OLED manufacturing process, so they claim this is going to allow them to mass manufacture 4K OLED displays. But they cannot yet confirm if mass market availability of this 4K OLED screen can happen in 2014 or 2015, this is something that they are still considering.

The future of OLED technology

In Dresden, at the Fraunhofer IPMS, the Institute for Photonic Microsystems, a future-oriented technology is being developed for new types of illumination and displays. The Center for Organic Materials and Electronic Devices Dresden in Germany, or COMEDD for short, focuses on research, development and pilot production of organic light emitting diodes.
